Halloween Monster Eggs

After some experimentation, the winning material is electrical tape- the office dots peel up (they're re-positional which means they don't stick) however, the paper hole reinforcers are great for making eyes and they stay on the plastic eggs.

Permanent marker for details and you're good to go.

My trick for cutting shapes out of any tape whether it's duct tape, painters tape or electrical tape is to first put it on parchment paper and then cut out the desired shape.

We're thinking of putting glow sticks in the monster eggs for a treasure hunt in our yard this coming Halloween eve.

Caramel Apple Muffins

Materials:

Duncan Hines Apple Cinnamon Muffin Mix
Apple Caramel Kit
Popsicle Sticks
Crushed nuts

Duncan Hines Apple Cinnamon Muffin Mix comes with apple goo and granola topping inside the package.

Follow the directions for mixing the ingredients (discard the granola topping or add it to the muffin mix).
Fill the paper cupcake cups ¾ full instead of 2/3 full so that the tops are round when baked- I made 10 muffins total instead of 12.

Follow the box directions for temperature and cooking times.

The Apple Caramel Kit contains 6 popsicle (you will need more) sticks and a plastic tub of caramel (found in the near the apples in the produce section of the store).

After the initial heating, move the caramel to a glass microwavable container (a one cup measuring cup works nicely) so that it can be easily reheated.

Dip the muffin top into caramel and scrape the excess caramel on the edge of the container and then roll in the crushed nuts.
Insert a popsicle stick and set aside.
The caramel will harden after several minutes.
The caramel says not to make them too far ahead- our caramel got soft over night.

If there is too much caramel – it might ooze off!
