Magazines usually work on projects and articles far ahead of the month they're published. For example, I was asked to develop these Cracker Owls in June, just as school ended and their final versions were published in the October 2013 issue of FamilyFun.
It's always interesting to see how projects I've worked on look after they "go to finish". I move this raisin and that bean around a bazillion times and try different ingredients; but in the end, the editors and art directors make the decisions for the final look, and the food and prop stylists make the finished work on set.
These are some of my mock ups for the Treat of the Month in the issue. Here (click the link) is the final owl cracker published in the magazine; the picture on the website shows the food styling by Blake Ramsey, prop styling by Linden Elstran and photography by Aaron Dyer (it's not my image so I'm only linking to it). I think they did a great job- check it out.
This last owl is the closest version to the one in the magazine.
Oh my gosh, these are just the cutest!! I love the textures created from the various items. I'll be featuring this on The Crafty Crow soon!
